Lack of Colour

lackofcolour

Something else I’d really like to explore is the lack of colour in an image, rather than just black and white. Of course the stonework of York Cathedral is perfect for this.I totally got carried away with the amount of patterns and textures in the building- something I always loved. When I got my job at Venture my tutor was mortified, she thought I would lose the subtlety of my work… she was right to worry of course… I learned a a lot & I never really lost it but I do hope to find it properly again.

whitby candles

I wasn’t sure how the images of the candles would come out- I really hate using flash unless I’m in the studio and the Minister was very dark! Basically I held my breath and tried to stay as still as I could! I’ve tried to make an image which is dark and a bit gothic, without being black and white. The warm and cold colours mixed together I am really pleased with. It needs text…will have to buy a new copy of Dracula!

Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey

We also went out for the day to Whitby, something I was really looking forward to. The old Goth in me couldn’t resist the idea of Count Dracula being hidden away in the abbey. It was great to photograph, such a dramatic building and backdrop. Again, the intention is to create a mix of dramatic images and textured collages. More coming on Flickr!

York Cathedral

York Cathedral

It’s that holiday time of year again and we headed off to the log cabin in York again, I got some really great shots of the Minister and York itself. The patterns and the brickwork were so beautiful and it was a really nice day. I took a silly amount of pictures, with the intention of making a textural collage from them….more coming  up on Flickr!

Its finally starting to feel like we are coming out of Winter! Hurrah! I’m determined to have a great summer this year and the warmer weather means lots of flowers to take pictures of and a great excuse for sunny days out! I find taking pictures of flowers very relaxing, and it usually means I’m having a nice day too!

I did a shoot a couple of weeks ago for the House of Charles hat designer. Her name is Janice Charles and shes local to Liverpool and just starting out. I was wanting to do something quite muted and subtle and it worked perfectly, I’m really pleased with them! And the hats were rather funky! They are all bespoke designs, they can even be commisioned for an outfit you already have.

After workin all over Xmas and New Year I haven’t been feeling too motivated lately but I’m starting to feel a bit better again now! Have booked myself a long weekend this week to chill out and catch up with some family I hardly saw over Xmas! Then I can hopefully start again in a week or so with some ideas and the reinvention of my website. I shot these on Crosby Beach in the freezing cold the other day, got some multi images for my project and some shots I’m just pleased with in general! The rest are on my Flickr account as usual!

Ho Ho Merry Christmas!

As usual at Christmas I’m really busy at the restaurant so all creative efforts go on hold for the month of December but I might just take my little camera to work with me and see if I can get some random grungy shots for my double exposures project. Here is my first photoshop effort from last week when I had a minute!!

I need to figure out how to do a double exposure still on a digital camera- am sure there’s a way. Anyhow, to be fair, photoshop does give an extra element to the double exposure allowing you to get different effects still with the happy accident element since you never know what they will look like! Its just picking the right images to put together.

I have decided to start a new little project of my own on double exposures. I really miss the happy accidents you get on film when you roll the film back and it only goes half way and things like that! Am going to try it digitally and just have a play round to see what happens :D
